Early Sea Painters: 1660-1730
A unique introduction to a relatively unknown but fascinating group of early sea painters working in England between about 1660 and 1730. The groups includes Isaac Sailmaker, Jacob Knyff, J.K.D. van Beecq, Adrian van Diest, L.D. Man, R. Vale and Lorenzo A. Castro, the two chief studio assistants from the late Van de Velde Studio and half a dozen other rarer painters. Pictures by these painters are becoming more increasingly sought after by collectors. The 64 colour and 47 black and white plates, many of which have never been published, illustrate each painter's range and style and highlight characteristics which help identification.
