Ice Master: The Doomed 1913 Voyage of the Karluk and the Miraculous Rescue
In 1913, an expedition of 25 people sailed from British Columbia in search of an undiscovered Arctic continent. Blown off course by polar storms, imprisoned in the ice, abandoned by their expedition leader, the crew of the "Karluk" was eventually forced to abandon ship on the pack ice. While the ship's captain set off on a 700-mile trek to search for help, those left behind had no choice but to struggle against hypothermia, snow blindness, and threats from mysterious disease, starvation, and exposure to the brutal Arctic winter. After nearly 12 months, eight men, one woman, and two children were rescued.
