Queen of Sea Routes: The Merchants and Miners Transportation Company
Baltimore was the home port of the Merchants and Miners Line, which serviced East Coast ports for more than 100 years. Dubbed "The Queen of Sea Routes," M&M grew from two wooden steamships in 1852 to one of the largest and most successful coastal steamship lines in America by the early 20th century. The company closed following World War II, when the cost of rebuilding its fleet proved to be too high.
