RMS Queen Mary: Transatlantic Masterpiece
Conceived and constructed in the midst of the depression years, the "Queen Mary" has played many roles in her long lifetime. Holder of the Blue Riband, she was one of the fastest liners of her time. She was requistioned as a troop ship and carried hundreds of thousands of service personnel around the world. Re-commissioned in 1947, she joined her consort, the "Queen Elizabeth", on the weekly express service across the Atlantic. She was the grandest ship afloat, a masterpiece of British craftmanship, and still survives today as a floating hotel in the Long Beach, California.
