A history from 1890 to 1955 of the Intercolonial Railway (later part of Canadian National Railways) rail car ferries, the S.S. "Mulgrave", S.S. "Scotia I", and S.S. "Scotia II", that linked mainland Nova Scotia to Cape Breton Island. As a boy Rafuse spent many hours observing the ferries and his great uncle, a chief engineer on the "Scotia II", enthralled him with an amazing array of sea tales.
