We’ve added a section to our site to help you keep your IMO codes and regulations up to date. This area has the latest updates, supplements, errata, and corrigenda from the International Maritime Organisation available for free PDF download. Let us know what you think and if you’d like to see the same thing for other publishers.

We’ve also made some IMO Digital Books for PC available for purchase and download. These e-book applications run on Windows PCs or tablets and contain the complete texts of important IMO Codes such as IAMSAR, IMDG, and SOLAS. They are available as free downloads but require activation codes which can be purchased through our regular site.

New Release from DOKMAR.

Ship’s Electrical Systems is the newest release from Dutch publisher Dokmar.

This book is intended for professionals and those with a good knowledge of the basics of electrical installations, but due to the quality of the writing and accompanying illustrations it is also accessible to those who are not in the industry.

The subjects covered includes all aspects of system design and installation: calculating power needs, initial drawings and equipment selection. Special electrical needs for specific types of vessels are also covered, including mega-yachts, dynamically-positioned (DP) ships, drilling rigs and dredges.

For those that are not familiar with this publisher, all Dokmar books are in a class by themselves when it comes to professional texts. The layout is clear and sensible, the writing is concise and to the point, and the accompanying illustrations and photos are useful, informative and full colour!

Our selection of books for professional mariners is both massive and massively popular. Some of the books are massive themselves — Bowdich’s American Practical Navigator weighs in at 879 pages, 30 x 23 x 6cm, and almost 3Kg — so mariners looking for reference texts but not ballast will be interested in the shift towards digital books.

The International Maritime Organization is among those leading the digital charge, with a number of their books now available on CD ROM (12 x 12 x 0.2cm, 0.2g). Currently available are:
