Run the Storm
by Foy, George Michelsen
On October 1, 2015, a massive American cargo vessel disappeared in Hurricane Joaquin, a Category 4 storm. The SS El Faro, its crew, and hundreds of shipping containers sank to the ocean floor, three miles down–the greatest seagoing US merchant marine shipping disaster since the Second World War. It shouldn’t have happened: the massive ship had a seasoned crew, state-of-the-art navigation equipment, and advance warning of the storm. With information gleaned from Coast Guard inquest hearings and interviews, and demonstrating a "tour de force of nautical expertise" (Ocean Navigator), Foy has produced a powerful narrative about the disaster.
