HMCS Sackville, 1941-1985
by Milner, Marc
The British-designed corvette was a crucial player in the Allied victory in the Battle of the Atlantic. Most were scrapped or sold off to foreign navies afterwards, and when it came time to preserve a corvette as a memorial and a naval museum, only one remained. By a series of lucky chances HMCS "Sackville" served the Navy and later the government as a research vessel until she was more than 40 years old. This is the story of her illustrious career, from wartime duty to restoration as a museum showpiece.
