In Antarctica: An Amundsen Pilgrimage
by Ruzesky, Jay
As a boy, Ruzesky was captivated with polar explorer Roald Amundsen’s diaries. So, motivated by the 2011 centennial of the Norwegian’s South Pole exploits, he booked a passage on the ‘Polar Pioneer’, a 71-metre ice-strengthened research vessel bound for Antarctica. His account interweaves his experience with those of Amundsen (on both ‘Belgica’ and ‘Fram’) to create a historically accurate and compelling tale of polar exploration and voyaging.
