The Accidental Sailor
by Heikell, Rod
In 1976, Rod Heikell left the Solent and headed for the Mediterranean in Roulette, a 20-foot sailboat that probably should never have left sheltered waters. But he survived the French Canals and the Bay of Biscay and cruised on to Corsica, Italy and Greece. This is the account of his many near disasters, and of the highlights and challenges of the voyage that ultimately shaped his life. This accidental sailor developed a lasting love of sailing and devoted the next decades to exploring the seas.
