ARTILLERIE DE LA MARINE – Maritz – 1758
by Maritz, Jean
A faithful reproduction of the manuscript by Jean Maritz who was a "General Inspector of the Navy and Army ordnance casting". Beginning in 1752, Maritz was in charge of setting up the drill machine (invented by his father) in the ironworks working for the Navy. The machine was based on the principle of horizontal drilling, with fixed drills and a cannon turning revolving on itself. This new technique made the manufacturing process more regular and respectful of the dimensions that were then strictly defined, as is evidenced by this manuscript.
