    Ontario Sailor

This is a unique style of guide that is spiral bound at the top (like a reporter’s notebook) that has two distinct parts — the “safety checklist” section for planning ahead that is to be read prior to leaving the dock and, flipping the guide over, the second section on “emergency action” is designed to be read in the cockpit while an emergency is in progress. Printed on waterproof paper, this guide is designed like a flowchart so that skippers facing an emergency – from flooding, a collision or a grounding to the loss of steering or man-overboard – can quickly follow a step-by-step or flowchart sequence of actions to solve the problem or at least stabilize the situation. The authors are sailors, one was a cameraman and documentary filmmaker for PBS and the other oversees a mobile app development firm. There is a separate guide for powerboaters and each of the guides comes with a plastic sleeve with adhesive stripes for mounting in the cockpit.
