The First Indian
by Donde, Dilip
In May 2010, Dilip Donde sailed INSV "Mhadei" into both Mumbai harbour and history, becoming the first Indian to complete a solo circumnavigation under sail south of the three great capes. A naval officer, he was selected for the challenge by the Indian navy in 2006, was involved in all aspects of the project, starting with Mhadei’s construction, and was mentored by Britain’s Robin Knox Johnston, the first man to accomplish the same feat. This is the story of his adventure.
